At What Price

A poem I read this morning inspired my morning journal entry. I focused on that one simple question: “At What Price?”

David St. John’s poem “Before Dawn” was brought to my in-box by Poem-a-Day. And I was struck by that question and further inspired by the meditation behind his poem:

“inadvertent accountings of what’s been gained, but also of what’s been lost, along the way—those unexpected human expenses exacted by and paid to experience”

Have we not all encountered our own “inadvertent accountings” and experienced “unexpected human expenses” while living our lives?

I think considering the answers and gains we have pursued throughout our lives as well as the price we paid for those answers and gains are important areas to explore in our writing. Do you?
