Learn More
The best way to learn more about me is by reading my Metawriting blog, reviewing my Scoop. It profile, and following @DeannaMascle on Twitter. You can also find me on Facebook, Google+, Pinterest, and Scoop. It where I post and share about my passions, interests, and opinions.
I have always been passionate about the written word. I love to read and I love to write. I was an avid writer in childhood and have earned a living as a writer and editor for decades working in the worlds of newspaper, magazine, and online publishing as well as publishing three novels.
An experienced writing teacher, I began teaching GED preparation and high school English classes and have been teaching college-level writing classes since 1999. Currently, I teach writing at Morehead State University where I also direct the Morehead Writing Project and run the MWP Writing Studio. I am underpaid and underappreciated at Morehead State, but love what I teach which includes a spicy mixture of general education writing classes (developmental writing, Writing I and II), professional writing, First Year Seminar (where I can share my love of Stories), and graduate classes for teachers (Morehead Writing Project Summer Institutes). I regularly teach online and love it (years of experience developing and teaching online courses as well as Quality Matters certification) although it is nice to mix in face-to-face classes too. All this experience and education plays a role in my goals for this web site, explained in greater detail on the #JustWrite and Writing Studio pages, but are essentially to support the growth and development of writers of all ages.
Another very important detail about me is my love of Stories. I love reading stories and watching stories (TV and movies) as well as talking about those stories with others. I have found that this shared human trait, the love of stories, is a wonderful building block for deeper learning and so I built my general education classes around them and advocate for the use of stories to teach/learn. However, even that was not enough so I began my Stories blog to share my thoughts about stories with other fans. Here are my most recent reflections about stories:
