Founding Stories

This week I’ve been thinking about our founding stories for obvious reasons. First, of course, we have the celebration of Thanksgiving and there is much to think about in Today, Explained’s Talk turkey to me episode. The conversation explores history and tradition as well as meal strategy.
But last week many of us spent the week watching the 12-hour series The American Revolution which explores so many founding stories. You can learn more about the stories featured in “The American Revolution” at the Museum of the American Revolution. Some of the things that I have been thinking about:
- The Sullivan Expedition (because I grew up in this region)
- George Washington’s Eclipse (because the Rebel Cartographers have an interest in eclipses)
- The Kentucky Militia and Kentucky land speculation (because this is where I live)
- Phillis Wheatley (because poetry!)
- The artwork featured throughout the series (including Don Troiani’s painting of the Battle of Fort Washington which is featured above).
What founding stories are you thinking about this week?
