June has finally arrived – and on a Monday which makes it even more delicious. I am very excited about this year’s LexPoMo for a number of reasons not least of which is that my first dip of the toe brought me seven delightful poems before I could even pause for breath. What a delicious and auspicious beginning to Lexington Poetry Month.
I chose to kickoff my LexPoMo adventure with Fly which was inspired by one of my favorite poets and one of her more famous poems (blessing the boats). I love using Clifton’s poetry as a writing invitation and earlier this year I shared this poem with a class of future English teachers and the Rebel Cartographers. Clearly my poem and its inspiration led to my choice of featured image, but it felt even more appropriate based on some of the poems others wrote to celebrate setting sail on another LexPoMo adventure:
- Don’t Be Stingy With Your Love
- NONCONCEPTUAL
- “I’ve done some shit in my life. Some of which I regret. Anybody who says they haven’t, is probably a sociopath.”
- Beginning A Month Of Poetry
- This June
- In the Beginning
- Inside the nursing home
I am full of anticipation and energy after these reads. Let’s Fly!
