Meet Virginia

When did you last explore your wild side? How many times have you transformed in your life? What do you love?

This week the Just Write Virtual Writing Group enjoyed the third stop on its 7-week journey with the National Writing Project’s Write Across America virtual writing marathon (you can sign up here). Each week we will revisit the invitation offered by the host site and the writing generated at the Tuesday event to find new inspiration and/or extend writing begun earlier in the week.

The July 12 stop was hosted by the Northern Virginia Writing Project and offered eight paths to explore Virginia:

  • Coastal Summer Road Trip
  • A Walk on the Wild Side
  • Trailing History
  • Virginia is for LOVEers
  • Eat Your Way Through VA
  • A Day of Play
  • Artistic Transformations
  • Rest and Rejuvenate

If you chose the Coastal Summer Road Trip you were invited to visit Virginia Beach and take King Neptune as your muse, explore Cape Charles, or visit the ponies of Assateague Island.

If you chose A Walk on the Wild Side then your invitation included visits to Luray Caverns, Great Falls, and Old Rag Mountain.

Trailing History directed writers to visit Jamestown, Farmville, and Alexandria.

LOVEers found inspiration by visiting the Cape Charles LOVE sign, the Workhouse Arts Center, and the Vinton LOVE sign.

Those interested in eating their way across Virginia drew inspiration from Chesapeake Bay Blue Crabs, Virginia Beef, and Claire’s at the Depot, an elegant restaurant housed in a converted train depot.

Those interested in play visited Busch Gardens, a Hot Air Balloon Festival, and Virginia Beach.

Artistic types visited Black Dog Salvage, the Crooked Road Heritage Music Trail, and Kehinde Wiley’s Rumors of War (featured image).

Writers in search of rest and rejuvenation found restoration at Hot Springs, Cape Charles, and Skyline Drive.
